THE PREMIER MIDWEST TEAM CAMP of 2014

- Join the Malecek Team Camp Staff and over 900 wrestlers from around the midwest and compete in the largest one week wrestling camp in the USA!

MWR Camp includes technique sessions, dual competitions, team building, strength and conditioning, nutrition/motivational instruction, coach breakout sessions, as well as an individual tournament and all-star dual. All this, in the confines of the air conditioned 80,000 sq ft training facility at Chula Vista Resort. Also included is a 4 day water park pass, resort accommodations and “all you can eat” buffet style meals. Come and see if you have what it takes to be among the best in the midwest!

Dave Malecek begins his eighth season as UW-La Crosse’s head wrestling coach in 2013-14. He has led the Eagles to top-four finishes at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships in each of his first seven seasons. UW-L placed second in 2008 and 2010, third in 2007, 2009 and 2011 and fourth in 2012 and 2013.

Ross Needham begins his fourth season as an assistant wrestling coach at UW-La Crosse in 2013-14, including his second as the head assistant coach. He also serves as the equipment manager for intercollegiate athletics.
Tolly Thompson

Former NCAA champion and Janesville, Iowa, native Tolly Thompson is beginning his seventh overall season as Panther assistant coach. Thompson represented the United States for the second straight season at the World Championships after taking first-place honors at the 2006 U.S. World Team Trials in Sioux City, Iowa.

Joel Greenlee completed his 11th season as head coach of the Bobcat wrestling program in 2007-08.  In his 11 years as head coach, Greenlee has compiled a 122-95-4 (.552) overall record and a 29-26-1 (.518) mark in the Mid-American Conference.

In 1998 Mark Ironside won his second NCAA title, defeating Shawn Enright (Ohio), 9-3 in the finals…became Iowa’s 13th four time all-American…won fourth Big Ten Title, becoming the 10th wrestler in conference history to do so…named Big Ten Wrestler of the Year for the third consecutive year…Hodge Award winner…ended his career on a 67-match winning streak that spanned three seasons.

A 2008 Olympian, former Hawkeye wrestler Doug Schwab served as an assistant coach with the University of Iowa wrestling team for four seasons (2007-10). He also held the position of the team’s volunteer assistant coach in 2006-07. Schwab represented the United States at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, wrestling freestyle at 145.5 pounds.
Rick Caldwell

Caldwell began his coaching career as an assistant at BGM of Brooklyn for a year before leading the Iowa Falls program for three seasons. He left Iowa Falls to be the head coach at Ames where he spent four seasons before moving to Waverly in 1988 to be an assistant at Wartburg under Jim Miller.In 1999, he took over the Waverly-Shell Rock job and led the Go-Hawks to unprecedented heights.

Will Short was a NCAA All American at University of Minnesota .   He is the head wrestling coach at Simley High School, a team that is 9-time Minnesota State Champion and 6-time runner-up.

RESIDENT TEAM PRICING

Full resident team rate is for teams that will be staying at camp full time with room and board.

COMMUTER TEAM PRICING

Commuter team rate is for teams that live nearby and wish to commute. This rate includes noon meal and waterpark pass.

REGISTER

REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS MONDAY, JUNE 2ND, 2014
Please note the following information regarding changes made after June 2nd deadline: We will try to accommodate additions to teams after deadline. However, due to high participant numbers,we can not guarantee availability of resort accommodations after June 2, 2014.
 Any decrease a Team’s Athlete Numbers after June 9th will result in that team being assessed a $200/athlete fee for each dropped athlete. However, this fee can be avoided if the dropped athlete is replaced with another athlete not previously listed on team roster.

Registration Instructions

  1. Select a coach or team representative to organize wrestlers that wish to participate in the Malecek Team Wrestling Camp at Chula Vista.
  2. Email Dave Malecek to reserve a spot at camp.
  3. The team coach or representative should then download the Team Roster Form and Team Registration Form.
  4. All camp participants should return the completed Registration/Parental Consent Form to the team coach or representative.
  5. The coach/representative will be responsible for gathering and submitting athlete registration materials and Team Roster Form, as well as the $500 deposit (the remaining amount to be paid in full at camp check-in). Completed registration materials should be mailed in ONE envelope to the following address:
